Ever wonder where your trash goes once it is picked up from your sidewalk? Probably not, because the wonderful County employees of OC Waste and Recycling makes the complicated task of disposing of the County’s solid waste look easy.
Serving over 34 cities and some three million residents, OC Waste and Recycling operates one of the nation’s finest disposal systems. Nearly 300 employees handle more than 4.5 trillion tons of solid waste each year! Three landfills operate in Orange County. They are Olinda Alpha Landfill near Brea, Frank R. Bowerman Landfill near Irvine, and the Prima Deshecha Landfill near San Juan Capistrano.
Every day, OCEA-represented employees maintain this vast system that is designed to keep our local environment safe and secure for years to come. OC Waste and Recycling employees are using creative solutions such as converting landfill gas into energy, habitat management programs, and monitoring the maintenance of previously closed landfills.
OC Waste and Recycling has many OCEA-represented employees in various bargaining units. Most of OCEA’s members in the Department work in the central administrative offices, located at 300 N. Flower St., in Santa Ana.
