OCEA/Probation Department Labor Management CommitteeThe OCEA/Probation Department Labor Management Committee is an effective tool for addressing workplace issues and improving the work lives of our members in the County’s Probation Department. The LMC is made up of representatives of management and OCEA. In general, we address issues that are not normally the subject of collective bargaining. It’s a great way for our members to stay involved year-in and year-out. The OCEA/Probation Department Labor Management Committee meets monthly, or as needed. Individual employees may propose issues to be considered by the LMC.
OCEA/Probation Department LMC UpdatesReport for Meeting of May 6, 2009 OCEA Labor Relations Representative Llesena Ontiveras We met at OCEA on May 6, 2010. The April meeting had been cancelled because of preparations for last month’s SCOPO meeting at OCEA, so we had a lot to cover. Chairperson Alex Galvan called the meeting to order, and we were off and running. Among the issues discussed were the following: Safety issue regarding camera at SAO (employee parking lots): The plans are still under review by the Sheriff’s Department. We have a proposed implementation date of July 1, 2010. Additional laptops at Juvenile Hall: Two laptops have been provided. Network access is not available, but staff will be able to use external drives. Pepper-spray at camps: A new medical director has been hired by HCA. His input will be needed, before moving forward. Personal dogs on campgrounds: This issue is still pending. Room inspections at Juvenile Hall: It was clarified that Unit C is not a detention unit, and standards may be more liberal as to what is permitted in a minor’s room. A communication will be distributed giving details. Safety issue regarding metal detectors: The fact that outlying Probation offices have no metal detectors was brought up. The matter will be forwarded to Probation’s Safety Committee. The OCEA/Probation Department Labor Management Committee continues to be an effective way for our members to stay involved!
