San Clemente Contract UpdateMembers of the San Clemente Employees Association overwhelmingly voted this month to ratify a new one-year contract, which includes no reductions to pay or other benefits. The San Clemente City Council approved the new agreement last night. As you know, it has been a difficult environment for public employees in recent years with the economic downturn affecting government budgets throughout the state. Your bargaining team believes that given this environment, we’ve reached a successful conclusion with a fair settlement. The contract includes improvements to the disciplinary process to provide for a disciplinary meeting (Skelly conference) with a department head prior to any suspension being imposed. The former contract only provided a Skelly conference whenever a suspension of four days or more was being considered. The new agreement also includes a change to compensatory time. Once a year, employees will be allowed to keep up to 18 hours of compensatory time on the books. Any remaining hours will be cashed out. We’re pleased the San Clemente City Council voted to adopt the new MOU. As always, thank you all for your vote.
