Below is an application form for the use of those OCEA members desiring to become an OCEA Steward. Please read before completing this application. Steward Applicants must be OCEA members. Thank you for your interest in employee leadership and the OCEA Steward Program. Stewards are OCEA's formally recognized leaders in the workplace. As such, they are expected to demonstrate leadership through professional conduct, strong interpersonal skills, effective and assertive (not aggressive) communication skills, attention to issues, trustworthiness, and reliability. OCEA Stewards have the opportunity to participate in negotiations and on Labor Management Committees, and receive information about the progress of certain initiatives before the results are made known to the general membership. Every candidate is expected to complete OCEA's Steward training, to attend a monthly meeting, maintain workplace OCEA bulletin boards and other communications, and provide assistance in a reasonable number of planned and ad hoc calls to action. Upon the completion of the second of the two days of OCEA Steward training, you will be asked to make your final decision to be a Steward by signing a statement committing to these responsibilities. OCEA will always respect your decision to withdraw from the program if you believe you may be unable or unwilling to make this commitment. If this is your decision, OCEA hopes that it can continue to rely on your support and willingness to function as an informal workplace leader. Your application will be forwarded to the OCEA professional Labor Relations staff person responsible for representing employees in your agency or department. Feel free to call or meet with him or her about the program before completing this application if you have questions or need more information. Again, thank you for your interest in the OCEA Steward Program. |
